Don't be a stranger! (pass the dylithium please)
Solitaire Music was founded in
the 90's by Jim Callahan and Tony Prescott. Jim and Tony have been friends and
musicians since the early 80's and have worked on a number of projects together,
independently and with other musicians. Paul Demme joined the Solitaire Music Team
later in 2002.
Solitaire Music (Baltimore) and Nursery Studios (Liverpool)
was designed as a means for the two to share their projects with listeners, potential
publishers and agents.

Jim Callahan

Jim Callahan, a native of Baltimore, MD was voted "Best Regional Song Writer" and "Best Regional Producer" in the Music Monthly 2004 Readers Poll,
Published January 2005 (Vol. 22 No.1 Issue #244). Jim began playing to audiences at age
14. In the early 80s Jim played regional colleges, clubs and coffeehouses with a
blend of New Wave and Folk, he called "New Folk." He played numerous dates
including supporting performances for Folkways artist Gary Greene. Jim abandoned the
"Folk Scene" and his guitars for synthesizers and drum machines playing under
the name "Solitaire". As Solitaire, Jim received local
and regional recognition bringing his "One-man Synth Pop" act to area audiences.
Ten years before Pentium technology, Solitaire delivered ground breaking computer driven
performances. After the college radio release of his single "System Overload" in
86, Solitaire was voted Maryland's "Best keyboard player" and tied Nils
Lofgren for "Best regional solo performance" in Maryland Musicians
Magazines Annual Readers poll. Solitaires local notoriety landed him a spot as
keyboardist and songwriter for "Toy Soldier". Toy Soldier (comprised of local rock heros from bands such as MCA
recording artists the Ravyns and the famed Crack the Sky) quickly landed a
recording contract with an independent label. The bands Debut Album "Forward
March" was recorded in Marylands Sheffield Studios. Produced by Rob
Fahey (of Fast Times at Ridgemount High - Soundtrack fame) and mastered in New
York City by John Waite (1985 Mask of Smiles) producer Stephan Galfas. The
release of their single "Never my Love" saw some success in the mid-west,
but lack of funds forced the band to call it quits. Jim is currently
busy at work with Paul Demme on his latest project RETROPHAZE.

Paul Demme
Paul
Demme was voted "Best Regional Keyboard Player"
in the Music Monthly 2004 Readers Poll,
Published January 2005 (Vol. 22 No.1 Issue #244).
Paul formerly of Baltimore Rock bands The Changing Times and Cinema
had created his own Synth-based Electronic Rock act Artifact (releasing "Excavation"
and new age styled "Atmospheric Disturbance" through Solitaire Music).
Paul had been playing the local Baltimore/D.C. music scene since 1982. He did extensive
studio work with local musician/songwriter Mike Meckel. Paul also did session work for Ron
Campbell and Andy Rathgaber of Baltimores Goth/Punk favorite, The Last Picture
Show (ironically, Jim had played briefly in an earlier line-up of The Last Picture
Show back in 85 prior to Pauls arrival). Paul formed Retrophaze with
Jim in 2002. Their Debut album/demo RETROPHAZE: Digital Folklore combines all of
the duos instrumentation and influences from Folk to Pop/Punk to Synth and Techno.

Tony Prescott
A
native of Liverpool, Tony has been writing and performing for most of his life. In the
80s he emerged on the Mersey scene as keyboardist and writer for Liverpools
infamous "Cook Da Books". Da Books saw chart success in
France and abroad with Your Eyes, a single from the French Movie soundtrack La Boum2. Touring extensively Tony and Da
Books opened for bands ranging from Australias INXS and Men at Work to fellow
Liverpool/Manchester greats as The Icicle Works and Modern English. Cook Da Books were
signed to TEN Records (a subsidiary of Virgin), climaxing with a US Tour supporting Joan
Armatrading. Since Da Books split in the late 80s, Tony has been involved with a
number of projects including his own band the "Prescotts", touring Russia
with "The Pyramid Dream" (Playing with both bands on an independent release/LP
"One Summer in Liverpool"), and a recording collaboration with long time friend
Jim Callahan as "Callahan and Prescott". Tonys
current projects now include running his own multimedia and recording studio
(Nursery Studios), playing and writing with his band "33"
who tour both the UK and Germany. Nursery 33 was voted "Most
Under-rated National Act" in the Music
Monthly 2004 Readers Poll, Published January 2005 (Vol. 22 No.1 Issue
#244)
